Founded in 1823, Mortlach is believed to have been built on the site of a former illicit distillery. It was one of the very few distilleries authorised to produce alcohol during the Second World War, until 1944. Carrying out partial triple distillation, and benefiting from an old-fashioned "Worm Tube" condensing system, which it shares with the Talisker and Edradour distilleries, Mortlach produces a very delicate distillate. Like many of the Diageo group's malt distilleries, there are few official bottlings, apart from the Flora & Fauna and Rare Malt ranges launched in the 1990s.
This Mortlach was distilled in 2014 and aged for 10 years in Oloroso Sherry casks. It has a long, indulgent profile, with aromas of dark chocolate, tobacco and liquorice.
The small batch range includes bottlings in small batches, numbered, unfiltered and untainted. Titrating 48.10% and until now marked by the sherry cask, they are the perfect representatives of the distilleries featured on the labels in a rich and singular style.
