Blue Spot was originally produced by the Mitchell family. The family began in 1805 at 10 Grafton Street in the heart of Dublin City as a supplier of still wines. Seven generations later, the company is still in the wine and spirits business under the leadership of Jonathan Mitchell and his son Robert.
In 1887, the Mitchells decided to enter the Irish whiskey trading and aging business by shipping their empty wine, sherry and port casks to the Bow Street (Jameson) distillery.
The brand name GREEN SPOT was originally derived from the Mitchell family's practice of marking their casks of different ages with colored paint. Blue Spot was then a 7 year old whiskey, Green Spot 10 year old, Yellow Spot 12 year old and Red Spot 15 year old. While blue, red and yellow spots have always existed, the green spot emerged as the most popular whiskey and eventually gave its name to the Mitchell whiskey brand: GREEN SPOT.
With the organoleptic characteristics of a Single Pot Still, Blue Spot is aged in Bourbon
Bourbon, Sherry and Madeira casks for a minimum of 7 years.

Unchill-filtered and bottled cask-aged, nothing is added or removed, for a whiskey that offers a unique flavor.
