DI SARONNO Amaretto

This Italian speciality of worldwide renown is a fresh, almond-flavoured liqueur. Legend has it that Leonardo da Vinci’s student, Bernardo Luini, chose a young woman as a model for the fresco of the Madonna in the church of Saronno. As a thank you, the young model gave him a carafe filled with an amber liquid and almond aromas. The recipe, which has remained a secret since the 16th century, and the magnificent bottle blown by the master glassblower of Murano (Venice) have both contributed to the success of this artisanal liqueur. Amaretto is today an essential liqueur, an ingredient in Tiramisu and ice creams, the base for cocktails such as the Italian Sunset, an aperitif, an after-dinner drink, and delicious in coffee or hot cocoa.
