Since 2021, the Lochranza distillery has been directed by Stewart Bowman, who helped resurrect the legendary North Highlands distillery Brora, taking the helm as its first manager. This magnificent bottling’s incredibly skilful sherry cask maturation has conferred it a uniquely charming old school character. With rare magnetism, the flavour and aroma palette ventures far away into fruity, luscious and salty lands, revealing a poetic profile that inspires meditation.
Nose : fleshy, deep. Bringing to mind an aged vin jaune, the nose opens with aromas of roasted apple, dried walnut and Mirabelle plum. Revealing subtle camphor, the aromas then become tropical (pineapple), rich (salted butter caramel) and tangy (orange).
Appearance : vieil or.
Palate : concentrated, rich. Mustard seed adds energy to the lemon and milky (cream, coconut) flavours that first appear on the palate. Slender, with liquorice and medicinal (ointment) notes, the mid-palate becomes increasingly heady (iris), revealing powdery dimensions (rice, semolina).
Overall : long, silky. Opening with oriental notes (curry, cardamom tea), the finish evokes botrytised Semillon grapes. This combination is refreshed with the grape’s syrupy juices and the bloom’s velvety tannins.
