A non-chill-filtered single malt, aged entirely in ex-red wine casks, Vilanova Roja takes on many of the aromatic notes characteristic of this aging process, such as intense red fruit and sweet spice notes.
Rich in tannins, this whisky nonetheless retains the finesse of the Castan new spirit, and demonstrates great refinement, combined with a gourmet character.
Nose : Tannic and refined. <br>The influence of ex-red wine casks is obvious right away, with deep aromas of red fruit, particularly redcurrant. Notes of vanilla, blood orange, mokka and nuts complete the nose, with a beautiful opening on spices such as cinnamon.
Palate : Woody and warm. <br>Typical of French oak, beautiful spicy flavors (pepper, cinnamon...) complete an aromatic palette that's still very fruity, with fruit that's even more candied than on the nose, and a very unctuous texture.
Overall : Long and fruity. <br>Initially in line with the palate, the finish broadens the range of fruit (redcurrant, raspberry...) and adds a delicious malty character, with notes of bitter chocolate powder and even coffee.
