Single malts bearing the original name of the distillery, Brechin Distillery, are extremely rare. Founded in 1820 near the east coast of Scotland by three brothers, David, John and Alexander Guthrie, the distillery was located half a mile from the River Esk. It remained in family hands for over a century, before being renamed North Port Distillery, then closed by new owners in 1928. It reopened after the Second World War, only to fall dormant again in 1983, and the site was demolished in 1994.
Whisky writer Michael Jackson described his spirit as ‘dry and fruity’, and this whisky, aged in a Gordon & MacPhail cask, is a forgotten masterpiece that rekindles the spirit of a bygone era.
Distilled in 1981, this whisky was aged for 42 years in Sherry Butt refill and bottled at 52.50%.

The Recollection #3 range traces the history of Scotland's closed distilleries through a number of meticulously selected bottlings. Kept in the cellars of Gordon & MacPhail, they reflect an era and a chapter in the great epic of Scottish Whisky.
