L'Encantada's renaissance range is an exceptional one, comprising three armagnacs bottled in bottles illustrated each year by the frescoes of a different artist. True collector's items, these are three vintages from different estates, three low armagnacs with complementary profiles, all the result of ancestral know-how. Armagnac 2005 Domaine Cuxtan #33 comes from a damp cellar and the barrels of the local cooper, in the windy, sandy commune of Cazaubon. This is an intense, gourmand armagnac with pastry notes (crème brûlée, almond, brioche), delicately woody and spicy (cinnamon, curry, clove).
Nose : Fruity and spicy. The first nose gives the pleasant sensation of entering the bakery of a pastry shop, with scents of nougat, tart, brioche coming out of the oven or crème brulée. Then come notes of oak, evoking a walk in the woods with caramel candy melting under the tongue. On the finish, notes of spice (cinnamon, curry, clove) mingle with orchard fruits (mirabelle plum, vine peach), with a inviting freshness.
Palate : Pleasant and balanced. The sweetness of caramel blends with a gentle woodiness, like a caress on the palate. Then comes the crunch of pie and warm cake. The silky texture of the Baco grape expresses itself on notes of crème brûlée and exotic fruit, which intermingle with finesse. A palate bursting with almond, caramel and molasses.
Overall : Gourmand and elegant. Superbly long, it balances exotic fruits, spices and soft wood for an experience that's as evolving as it is captivating.
