Built by Thomas MacKenzie in 1897 - the year of Queen Victoria's Diamond Jubilee - the Imperial distillery was erected in the heart of Speyside on a grand scale, with the malting houses topped by a cast-iron crown. Mothballed in 1899, it reopened in 1919, remained silent for another 30 years, then reopened again to supply spirits for blending whiskies, before closing for good in 1998.
In 2013, the buildings were demolished, and the Dalmunach distillery now stands on this site. Single malts bearing the name of the Imperial distillery are the very essence of rarity. Their reputation continues to grow, and this forgotten masterpiece has aged in a Gordon & MacPhail cask for over three decades.
Distilled in 1990, this whisky aged 33 years in American Hogshead refill and was bottled at 52.70%.

The Recollection #3 range traces the history of Scotland's closed distilleries through a number of meticulously selected bottlings. Kept in the cellars of Gordon & MacPhail, they reflect an era and a chapter in the great epic of Scottish Whisky.
