CARONI 21 ans

Founded in 1918 in the heart of Caroni’s sugarcane plantations, this famed Trinidadian distillery was renowned throughout the rum world for producing one of the very best heavy rums. However in 2003, with the closing of the nearby state-owned sugar refinery, Trinidad sugarcane production ceased and the distillery was inevitably shut down shortly after and has remained closed ever since.This expression contains rum from the 1996 vintage which has been distilled and matured for twenty-one years on the island, resulting in an evaporation rate of 86% due to the intense tropical climate. However, the abundant angel’s share also helps to concentrate the spirit and create an idiosyncratic style which cannot be replicated elsewhere.Caroni 21 year old has been bottled at 57.18% to maintain the lost distillery’s unique heavy style and the label is a reproduction of an original from 1940, chosen to commemorate the golden age of Trinidad Rum.
