Produced in the Czech Republic by Jan Becher, Becherovka is a bitter liqueur that is now owned by the French company Pernod Ricard. Invented by Josef Vitus Becher at the end of the 18th century, this liqueur is characterised by a bitter taste and notes of cinnamon and ginger. It is made using a secret recipe, with only two people privy to the full list of its ingredients. Boasting 38% ABV, Becherovka can be served chilled and neat, on the rocks or in the traditional local style, topped up with tonic water to create a ‘beton’ (Becherovka and Tonic).
