OLD POTRERO 8 ans 2016 Ex Libris The Valley of the Moon

Nose : Rich, deep. Opening with tertiary notes (humus, chestnut, mushroom), chocolate and fruit (blood orange), the aroma palette then makes an elegant move into spices (ginger) and grains (rye). Allowed to breathe, peppercorn, tiger balm and ylang ylang fragrances add a heady, medicinal dimension.

Appearance : Cuivre orangé.

Palate : Taut, lively. With elegant vanilla and rancio notes (apricot, brandied cherries), the palate gradually becomes more herbaceous (straw, lucerne) and tropical (mango, persimmon). A fine layer of caramel then tactfully coats the taste buds. Wild strawberries arrive beautifully at the very end.

Overall : Long, smooth. The tasting continues with rich flavours of quince jelly and apricot tart, with grated coconut adding a tropical touch. Alongside liquorice, menthol and florals (iris, lily), the retro-nasal olfaction reveals other fruits, this time red (raspberry).
