In the mid-1990s, Laurie Barnard, president of St. Lucia Distillers, was adamant that it was time for a change: "If we want to export our rum, we need to differentiate ourselves and have the elements to make good old-fashioned rum. The column still and molasses represent one facet of St. Lucia rum.
Thus began the adventure with the commissioning of three stills to complement the historic Coffey Still column, as well as the replanting of sugar cane that had ceased in 1962. "Legacy" is a new blend of rums that celebrates Laurie Barnard's
Laurie Barnard's unique contribution to the creation of Chairman's Reserve. Inspired by Laurie Bernard's philosophy and art of blending, "Legacy" contains rums from our John Dore 2 and Vendome stills, as well as from ourbCoffey Still column. In addition to traditional molasses rums, the blend is refreshed and balanced with a hint of distilled rum made from the juice of estate grown sugar cane in Roseau. This rum is fermented with indigenous yeast and distilled exclusively in our smallest John Dore 1 still. embodies the vision Laurie Barnard had for St. Lucia rum.
