The Yanagita distillery was founded in 1902 and is located in Miyakonojo on the island of Kyushu in the very south of Japan. Produced with the locally grown Haruka Nijyo and Nishinohoshi varieties of barley, this version was aged in enamel vats and is a blend of the four vintages 2018, 2019, 2020 and 2021. Equipped with a strong personality, the palette of flavours and aromas is particularly expressive and warm. Over the course of the tasting, it then reveals a serenity and harmony that perfectly matches the pastel tones of its chromatic palette.

Nose : Rich, unctuous. On the first nose, popcorn aromas rise to the surface of the glass. This incisive opening gradually makes way for a refreshing herbaceoussequence. Barley takes over before a handful of red fruits emerge (raspberry).

Appearance : Incolore.

Palate : Lively yet smooth. Very fine notes of aniseed and liquorice make for an energetic attack. The salty mid-palate develops flavours of cut hay and porridge. The end of the palate is refreshed with an array of infusions (white mint, camomile, elderflower).

Overall : Delicate, silky. The start of the finish elegantly returns to the peanut notes from the first nose. In the after-taste, soft spices (cinnamon, cardamom) underscore the increasingly rich flavour palette (custard tart, semolina cake).
