Created in 1998, Gordon & MacPhail's Speymalt from Macallan collection includes legendary bottlings, the oldest of which dates back to 1938. Evoking the magnificent single cask # 21603906 distilled in 1998 from the New Vibrations collection, this version is a subtle blend of accomplished maturity and fresh expression. Overflowing with exoticism and as sparkling as you could wish for, its aromatic palette and flavour have brilliantly withstood the ravages of time, without taking on a single wrinkle.

Nose : Fine, racy. Wonderfully balanced, fruity, malty and spicy, the aromatic palette is also deliciously vanilla, honeyed and oxidative (yellow wine). On aeration, exotic fruits (banana, pineapple) rub shoulders with wildflower scents (buttercup, snowdrop). Gradually, beeswax coats the taste buds.

Appearance : Or soutenu.

Palate : Dynamic, haughty. Flavours of greengage, mirabelle plum and yellow melon take centre stage. Slightly pearly, the range of flavours evolves towards more lactic (coconut), liquorice and menthol. Over time, the taste buds are covered in tiger balm.

Overall : Long and suave. Flavours of toffee move the tasting towards more fermentative tones (brew). The retro-olfaction is particularly evocative, inviting us to admire the bucolic landscape of the Speyside region. Later, aromas of wax and candied ginger emerge from the empty glass.
