High Coast Distillery, located in Bjärtrå in the North of Sweden, is an atypical distillery which produces exclusively Single Malt whiskies. Probably one of the closest distilleries to the Arctic Circle, 63° North, High Coast distills Single Malt whiskies of character which stand out by their aromatic finesse. The climatic conditions of the region, -30° in winter and +30° in summer, give a unique and authentic style to these whiskies.
Founded in 2010, the distillery continues its development and is thinking of the future: more than 10,000 casks are immobilised for the ageing of their Single Malt. Eventually a full range of age accounts will be offered.
Hav - which means "sea" in Swedish - is a spicy, fruity Swedish single malt with a delicate smoky note, made with 25% peated whisky and 75% unpeated whisky. Hav, part of High Coast's Origins series, explores the effects of different types of oak on new alcohol. It was matured in a combination of small 40-litre virgin American oak, Hungarian oak and Swedish oak casks for at least three months, before spending a further six years in first-fill bourbon barrels.
