This bottling of Glen Grant was distilled in 1955 and bottled 59 years later for La Maison du Whisky by specialist retailers Gordon & MacPhail. Gordon & MacPhail was founded in Elgin in 1895 by James Gordon and John Alexander Macphail. As was often the case at the time, it was a grocery store and a wine merchant. In 1915, John Alexander MacPhail retired and a new partner joined the business, John Urquhart. He was joined by his son George in 1933, a few years after the death of James Gordon in a car accident. The specialist retailer works with several major distilleries in Speyside, from which it builds up considerable stocks. Gordon & MacPhail also bottles whiskies from many of these distilleries under licence, such as Glen Grant, Linkwood, Mortlach, Macallan and Glenlivet. Business flourished in the 1970s with distributors in several countries and the sale of casks to several Italian bottlers with selections that often become legendary. Today, Gordon & MacPhail, still managed by the Urquhart family in the original building, is one of the most iconic spirits merchants in the profession, with vast stocks of sometimes very old whiskies, the equivalent to which it is hard to find elsewhere. The Book of Kells range, named after a famous mediaeval manuscript kept in the library of Trinity College Dublin, brings together some of Gordon & MacPhail's most prestigious bottlings. A limited edition of 78 bottles.
