Cachaça

Cachaça is one of the most widely consumed spirits in the world, and reigns supreme in Brazil. Distilled from freshly pressed sugarcane juice, cachaça is somewhat similar to agricultural rum, predating the latter's production in the French Antilles by several centuries. Produced in tens of thousands of distilleries all over Brazil, Cachaça is distilled in pot or column stills, depending on the size of the distillery and the distiller's methods. It is then bottled directly, or aged in barrels made from a wide variety of different woods. It is usually bottled at between 38 and 48% ABV.
