Cocktail Bitters

Cocktail bitters, often considered as the ‘salt and pepper’ of mixology, are specific spirits which are used to give a bitter tang to numerous cocktails. Originally these were perceived as medicinal products, to be consumed at the end of a meal to aid digestion. Cocktail bitters have become increasingly bitter, as a result of laws designed to reduce their consumption, and have played a major role in the creation of the modern cocktail. Produced by macerating a wide variety of herbs, spices, roots and barks in a neutral spirit, and in others spirits such as rum or vodka, they offer a vast range of flavours and styles.
