CAPTAIN MORGAN

This famous rum gets its name from Captain Henry Morgan (1635-1688), a Welsh explorer who was appointed Governor of Jamaica in 1680. In 1940 when the director of the Seagram distillery, a major producer of spirits at that time, came to the Caribbean he immediately saw spiced rum’s market potential. The company very quickly developed a huge network of business relations with the local distillers, which enabled it to set up the Morgan Rum Company in 1945. The recipe for the brand’s emblematic rum, Captain Morgan Original Spiced, was purchased from two Jamaican pharmacists. Today, Captain Morgan is the world’s seventh biggest-selling brand.
