Calle 23 was born of a young French engineer’s passion for biochemistry and travel. After visiting different distilleries in South Africa and Mexico, Sophie Decobecq went to live in Guadalajara in Mexico to create her own brand of tequila. Sophie came up with the idea of calling her tequila ‘Calle 23’ while walking down a ‘calle’ (the Spanish word for a street) with a partner who asked her what she was going to call her future brand. Thanks to their specific geographical location, the agaves cultivated at more than 2,000 metres above sea level have a very high sugar content and give this tequila a particularly fruity aroma. The same year the brand was launched, Calle 23 was awarded a medal at the San Francisco Spirits Competition.
